東南極エンダービ-ランド、レイナ-岩体の地殻形成過程

研究概要

本研究の目的は詳細な記載岩石学的検討および年代学的検討により、これまで始生代のナピア岩体が原生代(約10億年前)に再変動したものと考えられてきたレイナ-岩体の変成履歴を解明することであった。最終年度として、本年度はレイナ-岩体の周辺のナピア岩体、リュツォ・ホルム岩体およびセルロンダーネ山地に産出する岩石試料と野外地質調査の結果から東南極の東経15-50度にかけての地域の地殻形成史を構築するための研究をおこなった。
1)最近ナピア岩体から得られた岩石試料から、超高温変成作用とナピア岩体の変成履歴についての新たな知見が得られ、レイナ-岩体ナピア岩体の変成条件の違いがより鮮明になった。
2)レイナ-岩体と同時期の変成帯とされてきたセルロンダーネ山地の岩石中のジルコンについて、、SHRIMPにより詳細なU-pb年代測定が行われ、これらの岩石の主要な変成作用が約5億年前のものと10億年前のものとの2つのグループがあることが明らかになった。このことは、レイナ-岩体から発見されていた事実と調和的であり、5億年の広域変成作用の分布がさらに拡がりをもつことになった。
3)リュツォ・ホルム岩体とセルロンダーネ山地に産する珪長質岩深成岩の岩石化学的特徴を検討した結果、太古代TTGや海洋性島孤に産出するト-ナライトに類似しており、原生代末期の沈み込み帯におけるスラブ融解の可能性を示した。これはゴンドワナ形成のテクトニクスと論じるうえでの制限を与える。
従来ナピア岩体、レイナ-岩体、リュツォ・ホルム岩体およびセルロンダーネ山地地域の相互の関連性については十分な検討がなされてこなかったが、本研究により、エンダービ-ランドおよびその周辺地域の地質学的なフレームワークの再検討が迫られることになった。今後は、原生代末期の世界的な変動が地球史のうえでどのような意義をもつのかという問題に発展させたい。
