研究概要

総括班
研究全体の総括を以下のように行った。
全体の研究会を7月に開催し、その際評価班の会合を持った。評価委員から理論系の外部評価委員を次年度から含める様アドバイスがあり、人選した。
10月から11月に3班の研究会、1班、2班の合同研究会をサポートした。特にそれぞれの研究会に外国人評価委員を招き、参加討論に加わって頂いた。その結果高いアクテイビテイの評価を得た。1-2班の研究会でも評価班の会合を持った。さらに、3班のワークショップに参加したグループ外研究者を支援した。
1月には全体の研究会を開き、今年度の成果をまとめた。総括班を開き、次年度の計画を議論した。来年度は理論・実験グループが、構造、動的過程、物性、表面界面計算機物性とトピックスでワークショップを開くことにした。3年次に開く国際シンポジウムについても意思交換を行った。さらに3月末に最後の総括班会議を開き、次年度にむけてスタートさせる予定である。
本年度は、実験室系X線として強力な回転対陰極型X線発生装置を購入し、これに精密光学系を装着して表面・界面の構造と成長後の極薄膜の結晶性との相関を系統的に調べる研究を開始した。また、高速かつ連続的に電子ビームの入射角を変化させるビームロッキングRHEED装置を立ち上げ、半導体表面におけるエピタキシャル成長中の構造変化に関する研究を開始した。これらに加えて既存の装置を用いて以下の研究について成果を得た。1)走査トンネル顕微鏡探針によってシリコン表面に形成された表面ナノ構造の形成と崩壊過程の研究では、その安定性の定量測定からステップエネルギーおよび表面拡散距離を求めることに成功した。2)シリコン表面における金属表面および界面の構造解析的研究では特にSi(111)表面に成長した銀薄膜と基板との界面の超構造が成長温度に著しく依存すると共に成長様式にも依ることを初めて見出した。3)X線波動場による薄膜成長制御の研究ではシリコン単結晶基板上に形成される酸化膜を通してX線波動場中で銀薄膜を成長させた結果、成長制御が可能であるとの見通しを得た。4)後方散乱電子回折法の開発とそれによるシリコン表面の構造解析的研究では表面における局所構造解析に有効な知見を得た。5)マイクロRHEEDによるシリコン表面での表面電気移動の研究では原子の表面移動相の依存を初めて示した。6)2次元角度分解光電子分光法によ る表面フェルミ面近傍の電子状態の研究ではフェルミ面でのネスティングに起因する電荷密度波に関して知見を得た。7)Ag(001)およびCu(001)表面におけるアルカリ金属吸着のLEEDによる構造解析的研究ではその吸着構造に共通性があることを見出した。8)STM探針の制御の研究では、探針先端の原子移動に関して、新しい知見が得られた。9)磁性薄膜の研究では、RHEEDおよびX線回折により種々の金属超格子の安定性に関して新しい知見を得た。
本研究班で主たる研究装置である表面・界面観察用の超高真空電子顕微鏡の装置全体の設計(次年度以降の部分を含む)を行った。これまでに開発され、あるいは別途開発された技術の組み合わせた装置であるので、全体の空間的配置等を決定し、細部の設計を行い、一部は来年度も継続して行う。本年度は、電界放射型超高真空電子顕微鏡本体を購入した。真空、輝度、分解能、ホログラム等の基本性能を確認した。次年度にエネルギー分析機器(オメガフィルター)を取り付ける予定である。一方、GaAs-tipを用いたスピン偏極STMの可能性を検討した。動的過程の研究成果としては、Si(111)面上のIn媒介Geのエピタクシャル成長では、In吸着Ge表面のエネルギー変化と不一致転移導入機構との兼ね合いが、成長膜のモルフォロジーに大きく影響していること、Si(111)微斜面でのAu吸着が吸着誘起ファセット形成を促す事、従ってこのような自己組織化が、界面構造コントロールに利用出来る可能性を明らかにした。Si表面上のCu吸着過程に及ぼす水素吸着の効果の研究では、3-400℃では、清浄表面に比べてCuのマイグレーションが著しく増大することを見いだし、これを用いて金属ドット形成の可能性が示唆された。一方核反応による水素分析の結果では、Si-Pb(室温吸着)系においては水素は表面と界面に存在することが明かにされた。酸化過程に対しては吸着水素の効果の研究では吸着によって(001)面では2段階過程を取ることを明らかにした。表面界面物性の研究成果としては、Si(111)√3×√3-Ag表面での付加的Ag原子による表面準位へのキャリアド-ピングを異常な電気伝導の振る舞いから明らかにし、表面準位伝導の存在を初めて明瞭に示す事が出来た。電子励起による表面プラズモン発光、高温超伝導体の界面効果によるd波効果の検出、界面制御金属超格子物性の基礎的研究成果、MnPt/Co多層膜の大きな磁気光学効果や垂直磁気異方性を見いだした。
非平衡開放系の電子状態計算法である第一原理リカ-ジョン・伝達行列法を開発・整備しているが、今年度は特にSi(111)表面とAlクラスターを探針とするモデル系>の計算を行った。探針による原子の引き抜きは、表面が正に5V程度バイアスがかかると可能となる。負バイアスでも活性障壁は下がるが、正バイアスの場合ほど顕著でない。この理由を電子分布の変化から説明した。TiO_2,SrTiO_3など酸化物表面の欠陥構造と電子状態、Geを吸着したSi(001)表面の吸着構造などを第一原理的分子動力学法によって解明した。原子間力顕微鏡(AFM)および摩擦力顕微鏡(FFM)の理論シミュレーションを行って、探針の傾き、形状、付加荷重がどのように力分布に影響するかを明らかにした。FFMについてはステイック・スリップ過程が像に明瞭に反映すること、探針先端原子のステイック領域の拡大像としてFFM像が理解できることを示した。強磁性体の界面における電子の輸送特性を研究し、トンネル効果における界面の乱れの効果を明らかにした。FLAP法による金属表面の吸着系の構造決定の例として、Cu(001)表面上の複雑なアルカリ吸着構造の研究を行った。さらに光照射した表面からの離脱現象を、従来の現象論を超える新しい方法論を開発して解析した。埋め込まれたクラスター模型を用いて、オレフィン酸化反応における銀表面の触媒機構を明らかにした。活性種は曲がって分子状吸着したスーパーオキサイドO_2であり、エチレンは端の酸素と大ききな障壁なしで反応することがわかった。またRu(001)表面上に吸着したPF_3分子の回転状態を量子力学によって解析し、その動的な挙動を明らかにした。さらにSi,Ge(001)面の、非対称ダイマー軸のゆらぎ、分域境界のパターンや変位の動的挙動を明らかにした。
