モンゴル草原植物群集の生産構造の解析

研究概要

モンゴルには乾湿の傾度にしたがって多様な草原植生が分布している.本年度はこれを植物の資源利用の視点から解析した.植物の水利用効率と窒素利用効率との間にトレードオフの関係があることが予測されている.これをモンゴルの乾燥傾度にしたがって分布している草原植生(forest steppe-mesic steppe-typical steppe-drysteppe)において確かめることを目的に研究を進めた.水利用効率はδ^<13>Cによって,窒素利用効率は植物体窒素濃度(Nmass)の逆数によって評価すれば,δ^<13>C,Nmassともに乾燥地の植物ほど大きいことになる.現在サンプルについてδ^<13>CとNmassを解析中であるが,これまでに終わった約1/5のサンプルの分析結果から(1)δ^<13>Cは乾燥地域の植物で高い.乾燥地の植物は気孔コンダクタンスが小さく,葉内CO2濃度が低い.(2)Nmassは地域間で大きな差はない.乾燥地域で窒素利用効率が低いという仮説は支持されない.したがって水利用効率・窒素利用効率の間にトレードオフは成り立たない.(3)C4植物は少ない.各地域で20前後の種が見られたが,もっとも乾燥している地域でも1ないし2種のC4(もしくはCAM)植物しか見られなかった.乾燥地であっても,冷涼なモンゴル草原にはC4植物が少ないことが示された.
