研究概要

●ヨーロッパ南天文台に設置した60cm電波望遠鏡による観測の実施
以下のように7回にわたりチリ共和国のヨーロッパ南天文台に研究者および研究協力者を派遣し、60cm電波望遠鏡による観測および装置の整備を行った。その結果、以下の研究成果を得た。

(銀河面サーベイ)
観測の方針を共同研究グループ内での相談に基づいて決め、観測は東京大学のグループよりおよそ2カ月交代で派遣する研究者が中心になって行ってきた。必要に応じて、チリ大学、スウェーデンおよびヨーロッパ南天文台の共同研究者が補助している。銀河面第4象限の観測を進め、銀経方向の観測点を密にするとともに観測範囲を銀緯方向にも拡大した。
(銀河中心領域)
銀河系内でも特に星間ガスの状態が異なると予想される銀河中心領域の広域観測を行った。既存の観測に比べて観測領域を格段するとともに、南点では銀河中心の観測高度を高く取れることと、使用している分光器が広い帯域幅を持っているために、従来よりも信頼性の高いデータを得ることができた。この結果、以前の結果よりも1.3mm輝線の強度が強いことがわかり、2.6mm輝線のデータと比較した強度比が、改訂されることになった。
