研究概要

放線菌の抗生物質生産、形態分化の研究は、個々の研究者がそれぞれ異なる菌株を用いて行っている。この分野の研究では、英国のJohn Innes研究所のグループと我が国のいくつかのグループが世界をリ-ドしている。このような状況下、日英両国の放線菌研究者および欧州諸国の研究者が、平成9年10月に英国John Innes研究所に一堂に会し、「放線菌の分子遺伝学」と題したワークショップを開催した。参加者はそれぞれの研究成果、実験手法等を発表することにより、研究情報、先端技術を互いに交換しあった。本ワークショップにより、これまでの共同研究が強力に推進されただけでなく、新たな萌芽的研究育成のための基礎が築かれた。具体的には、工業微生物としての放線菌の二次代謝産物の合成の制御及び形態分化の制御系の遺伝子発現機構を解明し、その成果を抗生物質、生活活性物質の増産、新規化合物の生産、ハイブリッド抗生物質の生産などに結びつけるための基礎から応用までの研究課題について、今後、可能な限り共同研究を行っていく体制が整った。来年度には我が国から数名の研究者が渡英し、共同研究を行う予定である。一方、我が国からの参加者は、これを機に欧州各国の研究者を個々に訪問し、新たに実験技術、研究情報の収集を行った。また、本ワークショップのプロシ-ディングを作成し関連機関に送付することにより、放線菌の最先端研究の集大成である本ワークショップの内容を公開した。
