極低温固体希ガスマトリックス中における水素原子トンネル反応に関する研究

研究概要	水素を数mol%含むアルゴンマトリックス中で、水素原子のESRスペクトルを4.2Kから45Kの温度領域で観測した。4.2K、放射線照射法により生成した水素原子の大部分は挿入サイトを占有する。この試料を20Kへ昇温すると、挿入サイトの水素原子は置換サイトに移動する。しかし、一部の水素原子は、このサイト間移動の過程(13K-20K)で、水素分子とファンデルワールス錯体(H・・・H_2)を形成することを見出した。温度依存ESRスペクトル線形を詳細に解析した結果、ファンデルワールス錯体の安定化エネルギーとして4.5kJ mol^<-1>を評価できた。この錯体は、トンネル反応の反応系および生成系に対応する。そこで、ESRの極超微細結合定数から、水素原子-水素分子トンネル反応が起こるときの距離として0.24nmを決定した。これらの結果から、ファンデルワールス錯体の水素原子および水素分子は、アルゴン格子中の八面体型置換サイトおよび挿入サイトに捕捉されていることがわかった。このファンデルワールス錯体の存在は、理論化学の分野ではよく知られているが、その安定化エネルギーは小さい(役200J mol^<-1>)。したがって、ファンデルワールス錯体は、気相中のトンネル反応機構ではこれまで重要視されていなかった。しかし、研究代表者が実際に測定したアルゴン固相中のファンデルワールス錯体の安定化エネルギー(4.5kJ mol^<-1>)は気相中の値に比べて20倍以上大きい。このことから、固相中のトンネル反応では、反応速度や反応選択性を支配する因子として、マトリックス効果により強く安定化したファンデルワールス錯体が重要な役割を果たしていると考えられる。そこで、固相中の水素原子トンネル反応の反応機構として、従来の気相モデルに基づき、反応前駆体としてファンデルワールス錯体を有効に取り入れたモデルを提案した。
