研究概要	本研究は、平成9年度から11年度まで実施され、平成12年度は取り纏めの年である。カーボンアロイの研究は制御サイトの観点から、分子・結晶空間レベル、界面・微構造空間レベル、表面・裏面空間レベル並びに全空間レベルでの新機能探索の四つの研究班で行ってきた。計画班が22名、公募班が47名で研究を進めてきたが、本年度はこれまでの三年間の研究成果を全員が纏めて執筆し、これを編集、印刷した。すなわち、成果報告書としては560頁以上に及ぶ大作となり、研究成果の公表論文は350件を超え、班員による共同研究の成果としての共著論文も20件を超えた。日本から発信したカーボンアロイが世界に認知されはじめ、国際会議はもちろん、学会誌の論文のタイトルにも取り入れられつつある。これをより広めることが科研費の成果として重要事項であると考え、海外の著名な出版社から英語の本を出版するべく、そのための準備を行った。まず章立てを次のように行った。第一章はカーボンアロイの定義付け、第二章は科研費の各班の総まとめを中心とした空間制御、第三章はカーボンアロイの最新の研究手法、第四章はカーボンアロイの最新の研究トピックスである。原稿は80%揃っており、現在原稿のチェック並びに未入稿の督促を行い、来年度の成果促進費の申請に備えている。また、今年度は炭素用語辞典(炭素材料学会編)の編集を全員で協力して行い、平成12年10月に出版することができた。以上を要するに、本特定領域研究によるカーボンアロイの研究は、当初の期待以上の成果が得られ、炭素関連の大型プロジェクト等へと繋がり、その輪が次第に大きくなっている。
