研究概要	1. 種々の天然カロテノイドが発がんの化学予防に有用であることを示す多くのデータが動物実験によって得られた。特に、リコピン(トマトに豊富に含まれているカロテノイド)は、有用性が高いと判定された。 2. ラッキョウ、アルファルファ、甘草等に含まれているイソリクイリチゲニンが、AOMで誘発される大腸粘膜異常腺窩巣(ACF)の形成を有意に抑制することが明らかとなった。 3. 新しい甘味科として開発されたグリチルレチン酸モノグルクロナイド(MGGR)が優れた肺発がん抑制効力を持つことを証明した。 4. タイ国産野菜の一種であるヨモギナから単離され、AL-1と命名された化合物が皮膚発がんプロモーションを抑制することが明らかとなった。 5. ヒト正常型c-Ha-ras遺伝子トランスジェニックラット(Tgラット)における乳腺発がんをカンキツ類に含まれているd-リモネンが抑制することを確認できた。 6. 一酸化窒素(NO)の発がんイニシエーター作用を、クルクミンおよび薬用人参抽出物が抑制することを証明した。 7. 大腸発がんの抑制効果があることが示唆されているブチレートは、WAF-1遺伝子プロモーター領域に存在するSp1-3部位を介して、WAF-1の発現を促進し、細胞周期のG1期において増殖停止を誘導することが明らかとなった。
