研究概要	本特定領域研究では、4つの班(第1班:受容体の機能解析と個体レベルでの役割の解明。第2班:細胞内情報伝達の生理機能解析と情報分子の可視化。第3班:プロテインキナーゼを中心とする情報ネットワークの解析。第4班:標的分子の構造情報に基づく分子設計及び有機合成)が置かれ、生体情報分子を標的とする機能探索分子を用いて生体機能の解明と制御を目指した研究が遂行された。本研究の特色は、1から3班の生物分野の研究に関係する生体情報分子を標的に4班の精密分子設計および有機合成によって創製された機能探索分子が、1から3班の研究者にフィードバックされ実験に使用されていることである。本研究によりこれまで協力の機会が限られていた有機化学・構造化学と生化学・生理学・分子・細胞生物学などの学問領域が融合し、ライフサイエンスの重要課題に取り組む学際研究の基盤が構築できた。本研究を重点的、効率的に発展させ、機動的かつ弾力的な研究班の運営のために置かれた総括班では、各班で得られた成果を合同班会議(平成10年12月9日から11日まで開催)、公開シンポジウム(平成11年3月24日、第2回日本薬理学会年会)、刊行物(重点ニュースDEPCOM、2回発刊)などを通じて公表し、コンピューターネットワークを導入し情報交換を行った。以上のような活動を通じて班員同志および関連研究者との間で有意義な意見の交換、相互評価が行われ、大きな研究成果へと結実した。さらに、本研究で達成された多くの成果が新聞報道などでも取り上げられ、研究成果の社会的還元にもつながった。また、創製された探索分子の一部は試薬として市販されるに至った(一酸化窒素蛍光検出用試薬DAF)。以上のように、本研究では生物系科学者と化学者の有機的連携がポイントとなっている。本特定研究領域の成功は、今後の創薬基礎科学の推進に向けた研究体制整備の指針となるであろう。
