研究概要	森は、3次元フリップについての研究と代数多様体の双有理幾何の著書執筆を行った:Xが端末特異点しか持たない3次元多様体の時、フリッピング縮小f:X→(Y,Q)について\|-Kx\|がDu Val特異点のみをもつ元を含む、というReid予想はフリップ曲線が既約の場合、森-Kollarにより解決済みであるが、可約の場合にも成立することを証明した(執筆中)。また、森は代数多様体の双有理幾何学についての入門書を執筆した。これは3次元安定型フリップの存在を端末特異点の分類を用いずに証明したり、dlt(因子的対数端末点)の定義をより簡明にしたり、klt(川又対数端末点)の有理性の簡明な証明を与えたり、多くの点で極小モデル理論の改良も行っている。宮岡は射影空間の特徴づけを行った:n次元Fano多様体Xの端射線が長さがn+1以上の時、Xはn次元射影空間に同型である、という結果を宮岡は超と共に証明した。これは、森やLazarsfeldにより射影空間の特徴づけを含む非常に強力な結果である(プリプリント)。中山は極小モデル理論の周辺課題を研究した:まず、数値的小平次元の理論を確立した。また、Siuが最近、多重種数の変形不変性の解析的証明を与えたが、それに対応する代数的証明を与えた。さらに、その議論を用いて端末特異点の局所変形普遍性を示した(執筆中)。斎藤政彦はShoenが導入した3次元Calabi-Yau多様体のミラー対称予想についてA-モデル側からの考察とBatyrev-BorisovによるB-モデルの計算を行った。特に、A-モデル側のprepotentialの一部がE_8のテ-タ関数とデデキンドエータ関数を用いて記述される事と、B-モデル側からの計算と一致することが示された。
