研究概要

3年に亙る当研究計画の1年目では、複雑系研究の新たな方向を与えつつある内部観測の考え方は現代数学の立場と相容れないと思われたが、2年目の分担者の間の議論を通して、現代数学が前提としている多くのことが必ずしも数学の本質ではない、という点が次第に明確になり、数学の現実的な活動を変化させない範囲で、理念的な部分はいかようにも変えられるという見通しが出てきた。当最終年度では、現代数学の再構築を具体的に試行することが中心的問題の一つとして浮上してきた。
・辻下は自然数集合の不定性が従来の数学の中にどのように現れているかを吟味し、Skolemの定理・Godelの不完全性定理として現れているだけでなく、超準解析・Forcingという強力な方法の背景をなしていることを確認した。また、Nelsonによる、数学的帰納法の原理を用いない数論では、数学的帰納法の適用が数の性質を変える様相が見事に現れていることを確認した。
・角田は、個々の自然数にある不定性を活用して数の再構築を素描した。
・郡司は、チュー空間の枠組みを不定性を利用した活用を行い、フレーム問題を理解するモデルを与えた。
・山崎は、実数論を用いないで微積分を再構築する試みにほぼ成功している。
研究計画の当初の目的は、応用解析以外の数学的分野が複雑系研究に役立つかどうかを吟味することにあったが、現代数学とは異なる数学の可能性が見出されたことは、予想もしていなかったような成果であった。
