研究概要	1.本研究の目的現在マラリアをはじめとする寄生虫病は工業先進国を除き世界各地に蔓延している。とくに途上国においては、寄生虫病による慢性的な健康障害が地域経済の遅れの原因として指摘されている。日本の橋本首相は1997年7月のデンヴァーにおける先進国首脳会議において寄生虫病対策の重要性を指摘しG8(先進8か国)は率先して世界の寄生虫病対策を推進すべき旨を提案した。本研究は世界各地域の寄生虫病の問題点を特定し、1998年8月に予定されている第9回国際寄生虫学会の企画を進めることを目的に企画された。 2.研究の結果 (1)ヒトの感染するマラリアをはじめとする寄生虫病について、さらに重要な獣医寄生虫学、魚類寄生虫学につき、世界各地域の現状と世界的視野でどのような研究がどこで進められているかについて班員全員による調査研究が行われた。その結果第9回国際寄生虫学会の企画が九州大学多田功プログラム委員長により完成した。 (2)橋本首相提案を考慮して「世界規模でみた寄生虫病による経済損失」に関する国際研究集会が東京で開催され、スイス(世界保健機関)イギリス(オックスフォード大学、リバプール大学)アメリカ合衆国(世界銀行)フィリピン(フィリピン大学)タイ(チュラロンコーン大学)より招聘された研究者が各課題につき研究結果を報告した。橋本提案推進上有効であったものと判断される。 (3)寄生虫病の理解を深めるためには展示技術が極めて重要であるため、ロンドン大学に2名が派遣され研修を受けた。この結果は第9回国際寄生虫学会にご来臨が予定されている天皇、皇后両陛下に世界の寄生虫病の実状の展示をご覧いただくために活用される。
