常温スペクトルホールバーニングガラスの創製

研究概要

ゾル・ゲル法による常温で永続的なスペクトルホールバーニングを示す希土類イオンドープガラスの創製とそのバーニング機構の解明に関する検討を行い、以下のことを明らかにした。
1. SmやEuの化合物と、Si、Alのアルコキシドを原料にしたゾル・ゲル法によって、Sm^<3+>とEu^<3+>イオンをドープしたSiO_2およびAl_2O_3-SiO_2系ガラスを作成した。とくにSm^<3+>ドープガラスは水素ガス雰囲気下で加熱してSm^<2+>ドープガラスとした。
2.ガラスのPSHBは、Sm^<2+>とEu^<3+>イオンの^5D_0→^7F_2遷移発光に対する励起スペクトル(^7F_0→^5D_0遷移)上で行った。いずれのガラスででも、PSHBを観測することができた。ホール特性はたとえば77Kで、ホール深さと幅はいずれのガラスででも、ほぼ25%と2cm^<-1>であった。
3.ゾル・ゲル法で作成したガラスのPSHB特性の特徴として、ホール深さは、ガラス中に含まれるOH基の量に依存し、OH基の増加とともに深くなることがわかった。
4.0H基を含むガラス中でのSm^<2+>とEu^<3+>イオンのPSHBは、希土類イオンに配位するOH結合のレーザ光照射による結合変化によるものである。
5.0H基結合の結合変化によって形成されるホールは、熱エネルギーで埋めもどされ、200K以上で消失した。
ゾル・ゲル法は溶融法では作ることのできないガラスでも、低温で作製することが可能であり、本研究で、PSHBを示すSm^<2+>やEu^<3+>イオンをドープしたケイ酸塩ガラスの作成に初めて成功した。また、得られたガラスのPSHB機構を明らかにすることもでき、実用化への手がかりを得た。
