研究概要	本研究目的は、地磁気強度が日本付近の半分程度と異常に弱く磁場減少率が異常に大きいブラジル南部地域で、超高層や中層大気圏における諸現象の形態学的な調査を行い、将来予想される汎地球的な地球磁場減少がもたらすであろう宇宙からの高エネルギー粒子の入射量増加に伴って、どのように地球環境が変動するかについての影響評価とその予測を行うことであり、そのためにどのような共同観測調査が必要なのか等を研究することであった。平成11年度も磁気異常帯での超高層異常現象の研究をする際、どのような観測項目をどの程度の観測精度で、いかなる方法により測定すべきかの調査研究のための研究集会を再度開催した。国内の学際的な分野の研究者を交え共同で研究する為の情報交換の場として、1998年5月下旬に開催された地球惑星科学関連合同大会や、10月の名古屋大学太陽地球環境研究所で開催された研究集会と協賛した会合の場を設けた。具体的には、放射線計測を航空機や気球で行うことや、光学観測、オゾン観測、自然電波観測、宇宙雑音電波観測、地磁気観測を行う場合の測定器の感度をどの程度にすべきか検討した。また、磁気異常帯は広範囲に及んでいるため、船舶による広域観測や地磁気共役点(ブラジル-トリニダード)での比較観測の調査についても検討し、理論的な予測研究を行なった。以上のような情報交換や予備調査研究を行うことによって、"南大西洋磁気異常帯での超高層現象の研究"の研究対象をしぼり込み、具体的な国際学術調査や現地研究者との共同研究への発展の可能性を探ることができた。
