研究概要	脳における情報処理機構を解明する研究の一環として、本研究では脳の左右性を細胞レベルで研究するための実験系を開発することを目的としている。脳の左右性は空間処理などの高度な行動を指標に研究されているが、ひとえに脳の複雑さゆえに細胞レベルでの解析には手がつけられていない。ここではチョウ類の交尾行動に見られる明確な左右性に着目し、脳の左右性の基礎にあるアルゴリズムを細胞レベルで解明する基礎の確立を目指している。この目的を達成するために、今年度は行動実験により、尾端光受容系の機能の交尾行動における左右非対称性についての確認を行なった。オスの尾端光受容器を両方、右だけ、あるいは左だけ熱処理して破壊し、交尾行動に対する影響を調べた。その結果、両方を破壊した場合は交尾の成功率が有意に低下するという結果が完全に再現された。右だけを破壊した場合、交尾成功率の有意な低下は見られなかったのに対し、左だけを破壊した場合には成功率が有意に低下した。実験は野外の網室で行っているために天候による影響が避けられず、今年度は必ずしも十分な数の実験を行なうことができなかったが、左右性の現象は確認することができた。来年度はこれを再度確認する行動実験を行なうのに合わせて、左右性の基礎にある神経基盤を探索する神経生理学的実験に着手する予定である。
