研究概要

本年度は、銀河系中心部の恒星とガスの分布、性質、形成史の研究に関し、以下のような知見を得た。
中田、出口、長田を中心に野辺山45メートル電波望遠鏡を用いた銀河系中心付近の恒星からの一酸化硅素メーザー線の観測の結果、恒星の運動に特異な成分が存在する事が確認された。現在この成分と銀河系重力場の非軸対称性との関係が研究されている。一方、南アフリカ側分担者のグラースは、銀河系中心近傍の長周期変光星の赤外線モニター観測を維持して行った。この研究で発見された長周期変光星の数は、銀河系中心部ではこれまで最大であり、銀河系中心付近における、恒星種族の研究にとって重要なデータとなっている。すでに周期分布が、バルジともまた太陽近傍とも異なる事が判明して、銀河系中心部でも恒星形成史との関りが注目されている。今後の密度分布、光度分布学の研究成果が期待される。
また、本研究の対象天体の一つである、質量放出赤外線の比較研究は、尾中、関口、田辺を中心に、マゼラン星雲中の赤外天体を用いて進められた。この研究の結果、中間型球状星団に発見された赤外線星はすべて炭素星である事が明らかにされ、またその主系列質量が1.5太陽質量付近に集中している事、これまでにすでに0.6太陽質量が放出された事などが明らかにされた。現在、進められている赤外天文衛星ISOのデータ解析が完了する時点で、炭素星の起源と、質量放出に関して、更に重大な知見が得られる事が予想される。
これらの研究は、現在も継続中であり、本国際学付属研究の終了年度内には、一通りの完成を目指している。
