深海掘削試料解析・孔内長期観測による地球ダイナミックスの研究

研究概要	本計画は掘削研究船ジョイデス・レゾリューションを用いて、深海底の掘削を行い、海底堆積物と岩石の柱状試料(コア)を連続的に採取し、また検層装置(ロギング)などによって地殻の諸性質を直接測定することにより、地球内部および地球環境ダイナミックスの2大テーマの解明を目指す国際共同研究である。日本からは、掘削船の各航海に研究者を乗船-参加させて船上での共同研究を推進し、また研究船白鳳丸を用いて掘削候補地の事前海底探査を行う。本年度は、インド洋、南大洋、西太平洋にて掘削を行なった。インド洋の東経90度海嶺では、グローバルな地震計ネットワーク敷設の一貫として海底地震計設置用の孔井を掘削した。またケルゲレン海嶺の掘削では、それが単純なプルーム起源の海台ではなく、大陸地殻の断片を巻き込んだものであることが示された。南大洋では、南極-オーストラリア-ニュージーランドの間の海洋循環経路の確立とその影響が調べられ、またオーストラリア南縁で、温帯大陸棚における炭酸塩堆積物の発達過程を研究した。西太平洋のウッドラーク海盆では、大陸地殻のリフティングに伴う断層を掘削した。事前調査としては、九州・パラオ海嶺の岩石学的調査を中心に行なった。 ODPの計画運営活動に関しては、理事会、科学委員会、各ハパネル・委員会へ出席し、日本の成果の発表と計画への意志反映を行なった。
