研究概要	Nealson教授が6月に訪日の予定であったが、緊急の会議のため訪日を中止したので電子メールを使い研究計画を立てた。これに基づき、小澤潔助手が7月25日から8月28までカリフォルニア工科大学のNealson教授の研究室を訪れ、Shewanella putrifaciensを宿主とした硫酸還元菌のチトクロムc_3の発現に関する実験を行った。これがみごとに成功し、世界で初めてヘテロな宿主を用いたc型チトクロムの大量発現系を確立することができた。この結果は今まで発現が困難とされてきた多くのc型チトクロムの研究に大きなインパクトを与えるものである。小澤助手はパサデナで精製したS.putrifaciensのチトクロムc_3を日本に持ち帰り、当研究室において酸化還元電位の解析を行った。電気化学的にはなかなか安定したデータが得られなかったので、条件をいろいろ変えて検討した。本研究代表者阿久津は11月始めにNealson教授を訪ね、この問題を検討した。さらに、専門家の意見を求めるためにアリゾナ大学のCusanovich教授を訪ねて討論を行った。帰国後、これらの議論を踏まえて実験を行ったところ再現性のある結果が得られるようになった。これらのデータを携えて、3月3日から7日まで藤原敏道助教授がパサデナを訪れて、討論を行った。微視的酸化還元電位のNMRによる解析も並行して進めている。
