研究概要

本研究は、我が国の文部省高エネルギー加速器研究機構(KEK)と英国中央研究所審議会(CCLRC)間で締結されている日英科学技術協力事業を進めるものである。同事業は、日本と英国が協力して、CCLRC所属のラザフォードアップルトン研究所の大強度スポレーションパルス中性子源ISIS施設に単結晶専用高性能チョッパー型中性子分光器MAPSを建設し、中性子散乱による先端的物質科学研究を行うものである。日本側は主として、中性子検出器の開発及び設置を分担した。分光器の建設に関する予算は、特定領域研究(B)「大強度パルス中性子による局所スピン・原子構造とそのダイナミックスの研究」によりなされた。また、ISISにすでに設置されている中性子実験装置についても研究の進捗状況に応じて日本側研究者が利用できる体制にある。本研究は上記のMAPS分光器の建設および試験実験並び、その他の実験装置の利用のために日本側研究者を主に派遣するための予算であった。また、日英相互の意見交換を行うために英国より若干名の研究者を我が国に招聘した。平成12年度の実績は、我が国より20名の研究者を(短期(10日程度)19名、中期(3ヶ月程度)1名)派遣し、3名の被告研究者を招聘し、研究打ち合わせ会を行った。
