研究概要	哺乳類においてY染色体上に位置するSRY(Sex determining region on Y)遺伝子が精巣決定に重要であることが1990年に報告され、高等動物における性決定機構解明のブレークスルー到来と考えられたが、ヒトの性転換に対しSRYで説明できない症例も多く、いくつかの間連遺伝子(Sox9,SF-1,WT-1,DAX-1,Wnt4など)が報告されるようになっている。また、哺乳類以下の動物にはSRYホモローグがみつからないことから、SRYは、進化の過程で哺乳類に特別に発生した遺伝子と推測され、このことは同時に、性決定機構と呼ぶにふさわしい普遍的な機構が別に存在することを示唆する。鳥類は哺乳類と同じように性染色体の対合が性の決定に重要な意味を持っているが、ホモ型、ZZ性染色体の胚は雄にヘテロ型Z・W性染色体の胚は雌に決定される。最近、センチュウやショウジョウバエの性決定に重要とされるmab-3とdoublesex(dsx)遺伝子が明らかになり、これらの相同遺伝子Dmrt-1が魚類、爬虫類、鳥類、哺乳類でも発見され、精巣決定に重要な役割を果たしていることが報告されている。特に、鳥類では、Dmrt-1はZ染色体上にあることからgene dosage effectによって雄が決定されるとする提案は魅力的である。しかしながら、本研究においては、Dmrt-1を始め、SF-1,Sox9,Dax1遺伝子発現が鶏胚の性分化に明確な性差を示したといえる証拠は得られなかった。
