研究概要

高等植物の形態形成について以下のような研究成果をあげた。町田は、葉の左右相称的発生に関わっているSYMMETRIC LEAVES1(AS1)とAS2の遺伝子をクローニングし、この二つのタンパク質がお互いに結合して機能していることを示した。また、AS1は葉の維管束で、AS2は胚形成過程では葉の表側で発現していることを示した。塚谷は、葉の横幅方向の伸張を制御しているがANタンパク質は、CtBPを似ており、細胞壁構造の制御をしているEXGT遺伝子の発現に関わっていること、AN自身がホモポリマーを作っている可能性を示した。中村は、糖シグナル応答の解明のために、糖応答遺伝子SPO::LUCの発現が異常になったシロイナズナの変異株を多数分離し、糖応答のみでなくABAに応答するものとしないものがあり、独立した経路の存在が仮定された。また、メリステムが異常に拡大したTONSOKU変異体を単離し、原因遺伝子がLeu-rich repeatを持つ新奇なタンパク質をコードしていることを示した。島本は、イネの短日性を決定している遺伝子の同定を試みて、長日条件下でCOホモログが、FTホモログの発現を抑制することによってなされることを明らかにした。梅田は、イネCDKB2とサイクリンB2複合体は、細胞周期の進行のみでなく、細胞分化の決定にも関与していることを示した。また、CAKがサイトカイニン作用にも関わっていることを明らかにした。西谷は、EXGT(XTH)ファミリーのメンバー33個の遺伝子の役割解明をめざし、それぞれが組織特異的に発現すること、異なる植物ホルモン応答性を示すこと、特異性の似たものは類似しているプロモーター配列を保持していることなどを示した。
