並列アルゴリズムに対する設計パラダイムと理論モデルの実現可能性に関する研究

研究概要

(1) 並列計算機理論モデルの検討と実現可能性:現在までに提案されている理論モデルを整理し、同期性、通信方式、抽象度等の点から比較検討し、実現可能性を探った。ここでは、PRAMの実現可能性を明らかにする目的で、PRAMの共有メモリへのアクセス方法に対するアルゴリズムを与え、ハードウェア記述言語であるVHDLを用いて記述することにより、詳細な性能評価を行なった(研究発表(15))。
(2) 並列アルゴリズムパラダイムの検討:並列アルゴリズムの最終目的は究極の高速化であるが、プロセッサの効率的な利用も重要な要素である。本研究では新しい現実的な理論並列計算機モデルの構築をも目的としているため、比較的モデルに依存せずに議論できる以下のパラダイムの検討を行なう。いずれも従来ヒューリスティックな取り扱いしかされていなかったので、統一的な取り扱いができる枠組と一般的な手法の開発を目指す。検討項目は以下の通りである。(a)逐次アルゴリズムにおけるパラダイムの効率的な並列化、(b)サブルーチンの一般化、(c)計算時間保存仕事量減少化手法、(d)仕事量保存高速化手法。今年度はこれらのうち、(c)と(d)を中心に計算幾何学やグラフの問題に対して考察した。研究発表(1)、(2)では並列計算機アーキテクチャを、研究発表(6)、(7)、(9)、(12)、(13)、(14)ではPRAMを、研究発表(4)(8)(10)では再構成メッシュをそれぞれ対象としている。特に、(b)に関しては、研究発表(13)においてソートやマージを一般化した問題を定義しその問題に対する計算時間、仕事量ともに最適な並列アルゴリズムを与えた。そのアルゴリズムには実現が難しい縦型分割統治法を使わず計算時間を最適にしている。また、(d)に関しては、研究発表(6)において、上エンベロープを求める仕事量を変更せず計算時間を高速化するアルゴリズムを与えているが、この方法は他の計算幾何学問題にも応用できるほど一般的な方法である。
