デデリエ・ネアンデルタール人骨に関する総合研究:西アジアにおけるネアンデルタール人と現世人類の共存関係についてのモデル研究

研究概要

平成9・10年度文部省科学研究費補助金国際学術研究「ネアンデルタール人とプロトクロマニオン」によって新たに発見された人骨資料について、復元作業を実施した。
復元された頭蓋骨は、これまでに類例のない良好な保存状態を示し、他の化石人骨資料、現代人骨との比較から、推定年齢約2歳の子供のネアンデルタール人骨であることが判明した。
平成5年に見つかった第1号人骨は顔面部が破損していたが、当第2号人骨は西アジア・ネアンデルタール人の子供について顔面部を含む頭蓋の全貌を知ることができる最初の資料となった。
その結果、現代人の同年齢の子供との比較から、次の諸点が明らかとなった。
(1) 眼窩が高く大きく、丸い
(2) 顔面の中央部が突出する
(3) 鼻が高い
(4) 額が低い
(5) オトガイの突出は見られない
以上、いずれも現代人の子供との大きな違いを示す特徴である。ただ、第1号人骨との違いが認められ、それが、同じネアンデルタール集団における性差、個体変異、時代差にもとづくのか、次年度に向けての課題である。
