電子エネルギーバンドの偏光マッピング

研究概要

本研究では、表面上に創りだせる1次元、2次元の低次元新物質、高温超伝導体などの低次元性を現す結晶のバンド分散と、バンドを構成する原子軌道を解析し、それらの低次元電子物性の特性と、その発現機構を解明することを目的としてきた。
本年度は、平成10,11年度で立命館大学SRセンター、BL-7に開発してきた真空紫外分光ビームラインと2次元表示型球面分析器による放射光励起角度分解光電子分光装置により、(1)代表的な2次元物質であるグラファイト、(2)半導体デバイスの基板であり、典型的な2次元表面物質であるSi(100)表面の電子状態の研究を行った。(1)では、光電子の2次元パターンの観察からグラファイトのフェルミ面形状、電子の結合準位に対応した等エネルギー面形状を求めた。さらに、光電子パターンの励起光の入射角依存性から、それらの各電子準位を構成している原子軌道を決定した。また、光電子パターンの入射光エネルギー依存性が見いだされ、グラファイト原子層間の相互作用についての知見も得られた。(2)では、Si(100)表面に固有な電子状態の光電子パターンを検出しただけでなく、3次元のバルクの電子状態の光電子パターンも感度良く検出された。それらの結果は、理論的なバンド計算との対応を示している。
本研究では装置開発に多くの時間を費やしたが、最終年度に上記などの有益な結果が得られるようになり、今後の低次元物質物性の発展に大きく寄与できるものと思われる。
