原子単位構造変化の動的直視による固体内反応の研究

研究概要

三ヵ年計画研究の最終年度には前年度に引き続く各課題の研究を進めたが、特記すべきものを略記する。(1)高エネルギー電子照射下での転位ループの成長を原子単位で観察測定する手法を編み出し、格子間原子と原子空孔の競合下における無秩序反応の直接検出に初めて成功した。電子照射による研究としてはこの他、溶質原子の点欠陥集合体発生に対する効果の系統的研究や、Alの超強照射による積層欠陥四面体の発生の世界ではじめての成功が挙げられる。(2)中性子照射の研究では、Feの温度変動照射効果およびNiにおける溶質原子の効果に関する研究が終息を向かえた。(3)最も進展したのは、金属薄膜の塑性変形に関する研究で、大量の原子空孔集合体の発生から推測していた転位機構によらない変形機構の存在を、電子顕微鏡内直接観察から実証した。強変形中でも転位の活動が観察されないことと発生消滅を繰り返す点欠陥集合体の挙動から検討したもので、半世紀にわたる常識を覆したものである。原子空孔集合体の発生に関しては、変形速度を一億倍の範囲で変化させまた温度を原子空孔の移動温度の上下に変化させた系統的実験から、分散して導入された原子空孔から発生することが証明された。新しい変形機構に関しては分子動力学法によるシミュレーションが進みつつある。(3)超高速塑性変形の研究では、多くの金属・合金材料において歪み速度10^4/sを境として変形機構が変化することが明らかとなった。即ち、高速側では(3)に述べた転位機構によらない変形が進行していることに確信を得た。超高速変形による内部応力の極度の上昇が原因とみられ、今後の展開が期待される。(3)(4)の研究成果に関しては、Gordon Breach Sci.Pub.のRadiation Effects and Defects in Solidsに300ページ余の特集号として公表する予定となっている。
