研究概要	(1) ヤナギルリハムシを用いて、本種が幼虫の発育と生存に良好な寄主を選んでいるのかどうかを調べた。実験条件下 (22°C、l6L-8D)で、3種のヤナギ(オノエヤナギ、イヌコリヤナギ、エゾノカワヤナギ)上での幼虫と成虫のパフォーマンス(生存率、発育期間、成虫サイズ、産卵数、産卵前期間、成虫寿命)について調べた。幼虫はエゾノカワヤナギ上で最も早い成長を示した。イヌコリヤナギでは発育期間は他のヤナギよりも有意に長くなり、成虫になった時のサイズも有意に小さかった。しかし、生存率には3種のヤナギの間で有意な差がなかった。一方、成虫はオノエヤナギ上で最も長く生きたが、産卵数と産卵前期間にはエゾノカワヤナギで飼育した成虫と有意な差がなかった。イヌコリヤナギではほとんどの形質において他の2種のヤナギよりパフォーマンスが劣った。 (2) ポプラシロハモグリを用いて、同所的に成育しているヤナギ科の植物4種に対する産卵パタンを野外での産卵密度の調査と室内での選択実験により明らかにし、そのような産卵パタンはそれぞれの植物における幼虫のパフォーマンスの良さと一致するかを検証した。野外では幼虫の発育ができない植物に対しても多くの卵が産まれていた。しかし、室内での選択実験では雌成虫はそのような植物に対する産卵を避ける傾向が見られた。そのため、ポプラシロハモグリでは選択実験により示されたプレファレンスと幼虫のパフォーマンスの間に一致がみられたが、野外ではその関係が実現されていないことが明らかになった。 (3) 石狩川河川敷に成育しているオノエヤナギの株ごとの化学的キャラクターを分析した。オノエヤナギの2つの化学種(ampelopsin型とケイ皮酸グルコースエステル型)の葉をそれぞれヤナギルリハムシに摂食させたところ、化学種によって摂食程度が異なる、という現象が見られた。そこで、寒天板上により好まれる化学種のオノエヤナギの粗抽出物を塗布したところ、対照寒天板よりもより高い頻度でヤナギルリハムシがその上に定着した。また、この種の主な二次代謝産物であるampelopsinを塗布した寒天板でも、同様の現象が観察された。
