研究概要	感覚情報処理機構を解明する研究の一環として、今年度は(1)個眼における分光感度調節機構と(2)色覚の性質の2点について、主としてナミアゲハを用いた研究を行った。(1)に関しては、異常に広い分光感度特性を持つ新しい色受容細胞(以後A細胞と呼ぶ)を発見し、その分光感度の生成機構を解明した。(2)に関しては、アゲハに色覚が存在することを初めて明かにすることができた。ナミアゲハ複眼には5種類の色受容細胞が存在することが分かっていた。今回発見されたA細胞は6種類目である。A細胞には2つの大きな特徴があった。第1に、紫外線に対する感度が極端に低いこと、第2に可視部での分光感度が異常に幅広いことである。第1の特徴は、A細胞が紫外線フィルターとしての3-OHレチノールを含む個眼(蛍光個眼)に存在することで説明できた。第2の特徴は、A細胞が、2種類の視物質を同時に発現しているということと、赤いフィルター色素を持った個眼に存在しているということで説明できた。A細胞の色覚機能における機能についてはまだわからない。求蜜中のナミアゲハが色覚を持つことは、昨年来の研究で開発していた人工気象室を用いた行動実験系であきらかになった。色紙を学習させる選択実験を行い、ナミアゲハが色をたよりにして色紙を学習し、求蜜源としてこれを訪問することが分かった。チョウ類の色覚に関する研究は古くから出版されているが、厳密な意味で色覚を証明した研究はこれが初めてである。
