方向性原子結合の可視的理解とそのエンジニアリングの試み-C40型シリサイドのconventional shear-synchroshear 遷移をvehicle として-

研究概要

遷移金属(Ti、V、Nb、Ta、Cr、Mo、W、Re)のダイシリサイドは、C11_b(正方晶)、C40(六方晶)、C54(斜方晶)のいずれかの構造に結晶する。しかし、これら3種の構造の最近接原子配列には、angular distributionの違いはあるが、radial distributionは全く同じであり、方向性結合がこれら3種の構造の相対的安定性を支配する重要な要素となっている。しかも、その方向性結合効果がこれらシリサイドの変形機構を決定する重要な要因である。本研究では、これらシリサイドの変形機構を解明し、方向性結合効果を理解することを試みた。
まずC11_b、C40、C54型構造に結晶する多数のダイシリサイドの変形を研究し、変形応力の温度依存性を明らかにした。その結果、(1)これらダイシリサイドは比較的低温でも変形するグループとより高温域でのみ変形するグループに別れること、(2)それぞれのグループの等価なすべりを担っている転位のcore structureが基本的に同じであること、等を明らかにした。さらにC40/C11_b相対相安定性を系統的に変化させる合金元素を添加したシリサイドについて、それぞれのグループに属するシリサイド中の転位のcore structureを超高分解能電子顕微鏡によって詳細に観察し、転位のcore structureの決定的な変化(変形機構の変化)がどのような過程を経て起こるのかを明らかにした。
続いて次世代の超高温構造材料の有力候補として注目されているMoSi_2の低温ならびに高温特性を改善するため、第3元素、特にC11_b型構造及びその構造と類似性のあるC40型構造のダイシリサイドを形成する遷移元素(前者としてW、Re、後者としてCr、Nb、V、Al)の添加効果を研究した。その結果、いずれの第三元素も、二元系MoSi_2において最大の強度を示す[001]方位の降伏応力を増大させる傾向にあり、特に、NbとRe添加の効果が大きいこと等、多くの興味ある結果を得た。
