極性コレステリック高分子液晶のらせん構造とレーザー光との相互作用に関する研究

研究概要

リオトロピックコレステリック液晶を形成するポリ-γ-ベンジル-L-グルタメート(PBLG)およびその誘導体を合成した。極性構造発現において重要な因子となる分子量はN-カルボン酸無水物(NCA)法によって重合し、分子量分散1.1程度のポリマーを得た。双極子モーメント及び分子超分極率の計算を量子化学計算によって行った。双極子モーメントは重合度に比例し、くり返し単位あたり4デバイであった。PBLGを溶液キャストし、徐々に溶媒を蒸発させることでピッチが連続的に変化するコレステリック構造を持つフィルムが作製できた。そのコレステリックフィルムにレーザー光を入射したところ、コレステリックらせんピッチがSHG波長に等しいところでのみSHGが確認された。また、入射光を直線偏光・円偏光としたところ、SHGの有無、およびSHGの偏光特性に違いが生じた。さらにコレステリックのらせんセンスが逆となるポリ-γ-ベンジル-L-グルタメート(PBDG)のコレステリックフイルムを用いた場合、PBLGとは対照的な実験結果を得た。キラル極性ネマチック液晶のSHGの振る舞いは、強誘電キラルスメクチック液晶でのらせん帰還分布型キャビティー効果とはまったく異なるものである。
