研究概要

海洋は地球環境変動に大きな役割を果たし、海洋生物資源、海洋空間の活用は人類の将来を左右するが、海洋諸過程の解明は遅れている、半閉鎖的な縁辺海である、日本海、東シナ海で新手法を含む観測を強化し、国際共同(UNESCO/IOC/WESTPAC事業NEAR-GOOS:日本、中国、韓国、ロシアが参加)でリアルタイムで収集する温度、塩分、海流、化学物質、生物量などの海洋の現況データをもとに数値モデルによる海況予報を確立し、海洋過程の理解を深める。化学物質、生物量などは海洋予報モデルで拡散と輸送の評価で縁辺海の海洋環境を予測し、世界海洋観測システム(GOOS)の構築に貢献する。
本研究では国内研究の連携がはかられ、観測の中心となる機関に職員を派遣し、11月6日に東京大学海洋研究所でシンポジウムを開催した。NEAR-GOOSニュースレターとして発行されるが、今年度の主な成果は1)海底ケーブルを利用する縁辺海への黒潮流入量の測定では、津軽海峡、浜田〜釜山、福岡〜隠岐、鹿児島〜奄美、大島〜三宅島〜八丈、沖縄〜台湾での観測体勢が整備されデータを収集した。2)水位変動を用いた黒潮変動のモニタリングは気象庁、水路部のデータ提供による解析が進められた。3)定期フェリーや人工衛星観測による縁辺海の海洋変動モニタリングが整備された。4)縁辺海の海洋予報モデルの開発が進められた。5)縁辺海の環境変化に関わる化学物質のモニタリング法を研究した。6)ブイシステムと衛星観測による海洋基礎生産のモニタリングを開発した。7)東シナ海の海況モニタリングを実施した。これらは縁辺海観測国際協同研究計画(NEAR-GOOS)で実施したが、平成11年度から特定領域研究(B)の発足を申請した。
