研究概要	本総括班はがんの疫学研究領域全体の研究推進を図るために合目的的に機能する。本領域は、1)国際比較による民族疫学的研究、2)要因解明を目指した大規模コホート研究、3)発がん・予防に関する分析疫学的研究、4)リスク個体差に関する分子疫学的研究、5)進展・予後に関する臨床疫学的研究、の5分野に分かれてそれぞれの特異性を活かしながら幅広い疫学研究を推進している。また、各分野間で共有できる研究資料や材料の効率的運用を図るため、1)大規模コホート研究の運営委員会、2)分子疫学生体材料利用委員会、の二つの特別委員会を設置し、それぞれの特異性にあった資材共同利用のための運営方法を検討してきた。今年度は大規模コホート研究で収集された1万5千人分(8万人中)の血清材料を利用するため、コホート血清利用委員会でコンセンサスの得られた各種検査項目(SOD活性、IGF、TGF-β、sFASの優先順)を本総括班で一括測定し、肺がん、胃がん、大腸がん、肝臓がんなど主要臓器のがんの危険・防御要因を解析していくための資料として提供した。また、本領域内で保存されている生体材料に関する調査を実施し、血清10万人分とDNA8万人分が利用可能であることが判明したので、今後はその具体的な活用方法について検討する。一方では、領域内の総括報告会を開催し、全分野の計画研究(19課題)や公募研究(29課題)の成果に関する相互情報交換、および各研究の問題点や研究協カの可能性などについて建設的な討議を行ってきた。今後の本領域における重要課題として、大規模コホート研究を進化させた第二次コホート研究を立ち上げることの必要性、およびヒトを対象とした本領域の疫学研究の成果を広く国民に伝達することの意義などについて検討し、後者については今年度から第一回目の一般向け会開シンポジウムを開催した。
