研究概要	本領域は研究課題を4分野、1)国際比較による民族疫学研究、2)発がん・予防に関する分析疫学研究、3)発がんリスクの個体差を解明する分子疫学研究、4)進展・予後に関する臨床疫学研究、に編成し、機能的に研究推進を図っている。さらに、総括班のもとに3委員会、1)大規模コーホート運営委員会、2)分子疫学生体材料利用委員会、3)ATL研究推進委員会、を設置して各分野間で共有できる研究資料や生体材料の効率的運用と相互情報交換を図ってきた。特に、大規模コーホート運営委員会では1988年度から始まったコーホート研究の成果をまとめるため、日本人のがんの要因について分析疫学的、血清疫学的な視点から評価することができた。また、分子疫学生体材料利用委員会は10万人以上を対象とした全国規模の分子疫学コーホートの設立を計画しており、国民の研究への理解と協力の推進、倫理的対応、標準化した生活習慣質問票の作成、生体試料の保管・利用方法など重要課題について検討し、分子疫学コーホート設立のための基本マニュアル作成作業に取りかかった。さらに、ATL研究推進委員会では本邦における過去20年間の疫学的、基礎的、臨床的研究成果を再評価し、新しい研究手法を駆使して新しく挑戦できる包括的な研究課題を提示した。一方、領域内では総括報告会を開催し、4分野の計画研究や公募研究の成果に関する相互情報交換、および各研究の問題点や研究協力の可能性などについて建設的討議を行った。同時に、がん予防を目指した疫学・予防研究の成果を広く一般国民に伝達するため、一般公開シンポジウムを2回(福岡市と東京都)開催した。さらに、今年度は「がん予防啓発書(上巻):基礎知識から新戦略へ」を発刊して公開シンポジウムの効果を強化した。来年度は本領域の5年間の全研究成果を盛り込んだ「がん予防啓発書(下巻):最新の研究成果と予防戦略」を発刊する。
