研究概要	1.アデン湾マントルプルームのダイナミクスに関する研究昨年度実施した東大海洋研白鳳丸によるアデン湾リフト系観測航海で得られた地球物理データの処理、地質データ(主として海底岩石)の化学分析を実施した。解析、分析の途中結果を議論するための研究集会を2回、海洋研究所で開催した。また、国内外の学会で複数の成果発表を行った。今年度の解析、分析データを基に、現在、研究成果の第一報を国際学術誌に投稿準備中である。 2.海台の起源に関する研究海台研究の第一人者であるコフィン博士を招聘し、セミナーを開催するとともに、海台の起源に関する議論を行った。太平洋のシャツキー海台およびオントンジャワ海台、とインド洋のケルゲレン海台の比較研究を行った結果、オントンジャワ海台、ケルゲレン海台はデカンプルーム型の典型的なマントルプルームにより形成されたものであるが、シャツキー海台の起源を説明するには、マントルプルームより規模は小さいが、長期間活動する高温異常マントルといつた新しい概念を導入する必要があることがわかった。中西、玉木が本成果の学術誌投稿を準備中である。 3.インド洋観測航海の実施中央インド洋海嶺観測航海(海洋科学技術センター観測船「よこすか」に研究協力者2名、大学院学生1名を派遣)、オーストラリア-南極海嶺観測航海(東大海洋研白鳳丸に、研究分担者沖野、研究協力者1名、大学院学生1名を派遣)を実施した。オーストラリア-南極海嶺には、同海域を掘削したODP187次航海首席研究員のDavid Christie博士(米オレゴン大)を招聘し(費用は先方負担)、掘削成果を検証する形での仮説検証型の地形調査を実施し、太平洋マントル対流系とインド洋マントル対流系の相互作用の変遷史を明らかにした。中央インド洋海嶺では、レユニオンホットスポットとインド洋中央海嶺の相互作用に関する有効なデータを得ることができた。
