研究概要

ドイツ電子シンクロトロン研究所 (DESY) に建設された電子・陽子衝突型加速器 HERA を用いて、電子陽子間の相互作用を精密に測定し、新粒子の探索と陽子構造を測定するのがこの研究の目的である。測定に用いる ZEUS 実験装置は、我々を含む12カ国の国際共同により建設され、順調に稼動中であり、さらなる改良が進められている。
平成10年までに収集した陽電子・陽子衝突反応での中性流及び荷電流反応の2階微分断面積を論文として完成した。得られた結果は、標準模型の予想とよく一致し、そこから、新相互作用等の模型に制限を加えることができた。また荷電流反応の結果から、今までのモデルより高い運動量を持つdクォークが多く存在することが示唆された。過去の測定は低エネルギーで原子核を用いたデータであり、核内フェルミ運動の効果を見積もる上で、大きな不安定性がある。我々の結果は、陽子構造を探る上で、高エネルギーの衝突が重要であることをあらためて明らかにし、我々が進めている、高輝度での実験に多くの期待がかかった。
ZEUS 測定器改良の一環として、我々は高精度シリコン飛跡検出器を平成12年度に設置する。我々は、この測定器の読み出し回路の開発と製作を担当している。試作機の性能検査を年度前半で行い、所定の性能が得られたため実機の開発と製作を開始した。平成12年2月に5台の実機を製作し、その性能検査を進めた。総数40台分の実機製作に必要な、基板製作と部品調達を行い、来年度前半で全数の製作を完了させる目途がついた。
