研究概要

ドイツ電子シンクロトロン研究所(DESY)に建設された電子・陽子衝突型加速器HERAを用いて、レプトンとクォーク間の相互作用を精密に測定することがこの研究の目的である。測定に用いるZEUS実験装置は、我々を含む12ヵ国の国際共同実験グループで建設し、さらなる改良が進められている。
今年度は、加速器の高輝度改造に時間がかかり、実験を行わなかったが、高輝度化にあわせて測定器を改良するためと、これまでに収集したデータの解析のために、必要な人員をDESYに派遣した。今までに収集した陽電子・陽子及び電子・陽子の衝突データをもとに解析を進めており、9編の論文を発表した。
前年度までに公表した後半な運動量移行領域の中性流及び荷電流深非弾性散乱反応の断面積のデータと標準模型との比較から、陽子構造を探り内部クォーク・グルーオンの分布を定める作業を進めている。陽子内のグルーオン分布をよい精度で求め、低い運動量を担うグルーオンは急激の増加していることを示した。この解析を通して、強い相互作用の結合定数が精度よく求まった。電子・陽子散乱で生成される多くの生成粒子の相関、多重ジェット生成、回折反応などの現象を調べ、量子色力学のモデルとの比較を行った。
平成14年春から始まる縦偏極電子と陽子との散乱の準備として、電子偏極度の測定装画の開発、飛跡測定器の新設、トリガー論理の改善を進めるとともに、理論的に、偏極衝突により超対称性粒子の検出感度がどう変わるかを定量的に検討した。電子・陽子散乱用の事象生成プログラムの作成も進み、レプトン対生成に関するプログラムを公表した。
