環北極雪氷掘削コアによる比較環境変動研究

研究概要

国内でのコア解析に加え、環北極域でのコア研究・雪氷観測を実施した。
「国際共同研究への参加」:デンマークを中心にしてヨーロッパ各国、米国と日本の共同で実施されでいるNorthGRIP(北グリーンランド氷床コア計画)に現地参加し、岩盤まで深さ3084.99mのグリーンランド氷床で最深コアの採取に成功した。この北極域での過去12万年以上を遡る地球環境の変動を記録している深層氷床コアの解析と南極のドームふじで掘削された深層氷床コアの解析結果を比較することにより、南北両極における氷期サイクルの比較を実施し、大規模な気候変動メカニズムの研究を行っている。
「カナダ、マッコール氷河調査」:昨年度の観測域・マウントローガンとの南北対比を行うため、アラスカの北極海側・ブルックス山脈中にあるマッコール氷河において雪氷調査を行った。氷河上流部の標高2300m地点が涵養域と推定でき、アイスレーダー観測から氷厚は150〜190m程度と推定した。また水当量で約1mの涵養量が確認でき、今後の雪氷掘削の基礎資料を取得した。なお自動気象観測システムの設置、氷河流動測定のためのGPS設置など通年観測の態勢を整備した。次年度以降に今年度設置した各種自動観測装置の結果をまとめ、氷河全体の積雪堆積環境を把握する予定である。
