分子磁石のおける量子性と散逸現象の研究

研究概要

本研究では、分子磁石を対象としてより単純なナノサイズ系における量子エネルギー準位をミクロなレベルで決定し、量子性に関連した物理現象を追及することを第一の目的とした。巨視的結晶である分子磁性体は同一分子の集合体であり、それ故に同一寸法のナノサイズ磁石集合体とみなすことが出来る。ナノサイズ系の特徴は離散的なエネルギー準位構造を直接反映した量子的振る舞いがみられることにある。
計画に従って、十分よく規定された少数個粒子集団であるナノサイズ系のモデルとなる金属錯体分子集合体を探索・合成し、あるいは合成化学者から試料の提供を受けて、広範な実験研究を行った。具体的には、反強磁性二核錯体Cs3Cr2X9(X=Cl、Br)や多核分子磁性体Mn12、Fe12、V15など多彩な分子磁石結晶体について電子スピン共鳴、核磁気共鳴、中性子回折、mSR、強磁場磁化測定などを行った。これらの系において、離散的な量子エネルギー準位の交差に由来する明確な磁化過程の逐次転移や緩和現象の異常を観測し、量子エネルギー準位構造との関連を議論することが出来た。引き続いて定量的な実験データを確定して理論的解析を行い、とくに量子ダイナミクスによる準安定状態の緩和機構すなわち量子トンネリングによる磁気緩和の機構や量子エネルギー準位の交差に関連する物理現象を明らかにするための基礎が確立された。また、その過程で本研究と密接に関連する一次元量子スピン系の特異なスピン状態に関しても新しい展開を図ることができた。結果は既に学術論文や学会発表として部分的に公表を行った。
