黒潮・黒潮続流域における水塊形成と水温決定機構についての研究

研究概要	垂下式超音波流速計を導入し、1999年7月黒潮続流域、8-9月千島オホーツク海域、2000年2-3月黒潮域において計300地点以上の観測を実施した。データ処理ソフトを改良し、CTD圧力と海底反射板を用いて精度向上させた。これらの資料は現在解析中である。黒潮続流域の歴史資料を解析し、混合層の熱収支/混合層厚の決定に、水平方向の熱水輸送が重要であること、1980年後半の気候ジャンプに先駆けて黒潮の熱輸送が増加していたことが明らかとなった。また、20世紀前半の海面水温資料の新しい補正方法を提案するとともに、黒潮続流の水温上昇が1940年代中ごろの気候ジャンプに先駆けて生じていたことを明らかにした。乱流クロージャースキームを組み込んだ3次元の海洋混合層数値モデルに、大気からの浮力フラックスや運動量フラックスの空間分布を時々刻々与えることにより、混合層の応答を詳細に調べた。その結果、混合層の底部において、風により励起された近慣性流シアーが強まることで間欠的に乱流混合が誘起され、これに伴って躍層内の低温水がエントレインメントされる結果、混合層内の水温やその分布が大きく変化することが確かめられた。黒潮および黒潮続流域における水塊や流れ場の現実的なシミュレーションが可能となる高解像度の海洋大循環モデルを構築し、気候値の外力を用いて駆動する試験的な積分を行った。海底地形の取扱いなどで改良の余地はあるが、おおむね現実的な結果を得るに至っている。
