高分子コロイド結晶の動的相転移と結晶成長カイネティックス

研究概要	沈降平均法による光学顕微鏡観察や静的および動的光散乱測定、そしてさらに反射スペクトル測定、電気光学測定などによりコロイド結晶を総合的、系統的に調査した。この結果、コロイド結晶の相転移現象やそのカイネティックスは見かけ上は古典的核生成および結晶成長理論に従うことが解った。しかし、同時に多くの粒子が関与する協奏的ゆらぎ現象であることが判明した。本研究ではこれまでの間接的な動的研究手法をさらに進めて、結晶成長過程および成長した結晶内粒子の並進運動を光学顕微鏡により直接観察し、コロイド結晶の相転移現象の理解を行った。具体的に行った研究経過を以下に示す。1.コロイド粒子のイオン交換樹脂を用いた完全な脱塩:0.3μmから2μmの単分散ポリスチレン粒子をイオン交換樹脂により6ヶ月以上完全に脱塩した。2.顕微鏡用光学セルの作成:下にカバーガラスを張り、白金電極を備えたガラス製円筒状セルを設計し、これを5個作製した。このセルはイオン交換樹脂を共存させて測定中も脱塩が出来るように工夫されている。また、セル厚を5種類換え、試料液をフロー方式で導入でき、しかもカバーガラス部は容易に取り替えられるようになっている。3.結晶成長過程における粒子の並進運動の顕微鏡観察:試料液の流動停止後の誘導期(核生成期)とつづく結晶成長期における粒子の並進拡散運動を100個程度について同時観察、記録を行った。4.結晶内粒子の振動運動の顕微鏡観察:安定に結晶構造が発現している状態での約100個の構成粒子の並進運動を30分の1ごとにビデオ撮影を行い各々の粒子位置の時系列データのフーリエ解析を行った。5.正弦電場下での結晶内粒子の振動運動の顕微鏡観察:0.01Hzから1Hz程度の正弦波をかけながら粒子の並進運動を時間分割測定した。
