高強度ニオブ3スズ線材の熱的安定性と冷凍機冷却マグネットへの応用

研究概要

ハイブリッドマグネットは強磁場発生とともに内側の水冷マグネットがそのマグネットめ縁付近に強い磁場勾配を作ることができるため、超伝導マグネット単体では実現できないような大きな磁気浮上力を生み出すことができる。これまでのハイブリッドマグネットでは、23Tの磁場発生において2500T_2/mの磁気浮上力が得られている。反磁性物質が重力と釣り合う力は、水で1370T_2/m、SiO_2で1990T_2/m、BK7と呼ばれるガラスで2310T_2/mであるため、これらを用いて無重力状態と等価の磁気浮上効果を実証してきた。
ハイブリッドマグネットの運転には、外側の大口径超伝導マグネットが多量の液体ヘリウムを必要とする。このために、液体ヘリウムの補給に時間がとられ、実験時間を中断する場合もしばしば生じていた。高強度ニオブ3スズ線材の応用として、ハイブリッドマグネット用の大口径超伝導マグネットを冷凍機冷却方式を採用したコンパクトな超伝導のマグネットの建設に着手した。CuNb/Nb_3Sn線材を最内層コィルに使用して210MPaの電磁応力に耐えるようにした。2電源方式の設計にして、外コイルにおける198Aの運転電流で4.59T、内コイルにおける145Aで3.41Tの合計8Tを360mm室温ボアで発生させることができる。水冷マグネットの組合せにより、世界で初めて無冷媒型ハイブリッドマグネットとして52mmの室温ボアに23Tの定常強磁場を発生できるものと期待される。液体ヘリウムを一切必要とせずそのための時間制限のない磁気浮上による材料開発に使われる予定である。
