研究概要

本研究代表者は、グラフにおける分割問題、特にその幾何学的側面の研究を進めた。計算機学は画像処理や最適化等、広範囲な応用を持つため近年盛んに研究されている。そのため、計算機科学の理論的基礎としての離散幾何学もその重要性を増している。離散幾何学の中心的な分野の一つに、geometric graphの理論がある。(頂点を平面上の点集合とし、2点を結ぶ直線分を辺とするグラフをgeometric graphと呼ぶ。)このため、グラフの分割問題のうちでも、特にgeometric graphの分割問題も重要な研究分野となっている。geometric graphの分割問題を考える上で問題となることの一つは、頂点の分割すなわち平面上の点集合の分割問題である。具体的には、SとTを平面上の二つの点集合とし、その和集合は一般の位置にあるとする。Sの要素の個数は2q点、Tの要素の個数はmq点とすると、各々がSの点1点とTの点m点から成るq個の部分集合に、和集合を分割して各部分集合の凸包が互いに交差しないようにできることを示した。これは、有名なHam-Sandwich定理が平面上ではより精密な形で成り立つことを、初めて示したものである。
