Al-Pd-Mn準結晶の熱膨張率の精密測定によるフェイゾンの観測

研究概要

正二十面体相準結晶の散漫散乱分布の異方性や温度依存性を詳細に広い温度範囲で実験的に研究し,それによりフェイゾンの形や種類の解明することである。
準結晶の熱膨張率の測定の1つである格子定数の精密な温度依存性は実験されていない上,格子定数の温度依存性に異常が観測される兆候もあり,格子定数の精密な温度依存性を調べた。
測定方法としてはX線単結晶を用いた複数個の反射する結晶角を測定するボンド法を採用した。しかし,線膨張率が一定の温度範囲が以上に広く,格子定数の精密な温度依存性からはフェイゾン等の存在の明らかな徴候は得られなかった。
散漫散乱分布の温度依存性を実験し,Huang散乱の準結晶への適用と体積非保存不純物による散漫散乱分布の計算を実行し比較した。Al-Pd-MnやAl-Cu-Fe等の正二十面体相の散漫散乱分布を実験した結果,(1)反射点によらずほぼ同じ形であること,(2)室温以下ではあまり温度依存性のしないこと,(3)その散漫散乱の概形はほぼ対称的で,L方向に短く,T方向にのびた菱形状であること,(4)その散漫散乱のq依存性はほぼq2に比例すること,等の特長がある。これらの散漫散乱分布の性質が,欠陥のまわりに生じる歪み場を弾性近似してえられるHuang散乱によく似ていることから,いくつかの欠陥を仮定し,このHuang散乱を正二十面体対称性を持つとして計算を実行した。
この結果,正二十面体相中のHuang散乱には立方晶中において観測されるHuang散乱と同じで3種類の独立なものがあり,現実の欠陥による散漫散乱はこの3種のHuang散乱各々では説明できないことがわかった。特にランダムフェイゾンもこの置換型欠陥の一種と考えられるので,ランダムフェイゾンのような欠陥が数多くAl-Pd-MnやAl-Cu-Fe等の正二十面体相に入っているものと思われる。
