超高品質画像情報伝送システムの構築に関する研究

研究概要

本研究では、医用画像やディジタルミュージアムなど超高品質が要求される画像情報アプリケーションシステムにおいて要求される機能を明らかにし、それら要求条件を満足する超高品質画像情報伝送システムの構築を目的とした研究を行っている。
本年度は本研究の最終年度であり、この研究で得られた成果を下記にまとめる。まず第1に、本研究では、超高精細画像システムが要求する機能を(1)可逆性、(2)段階的表示性、(3)部分復号可能性の3点に整理統合した上で、これらを満足する符号化方式として、リフティング構成による適応的ウェーブレット変換を用いたスケーラブル符号化法を新たに開発した。また、提案した適応的ウェーブレット変換をJPEG-2000(Joint Photographic Experts Group 2000)検証モデルVMO(Verification Model 0)に適用し、シミュレーション実験を行うことにより、提案手法は2値画像、混在画像について効果的であることを明らかにした。
第2に、ディジタルミュージアムで取り扱われる芸術作品は、立体物であることを想定し、角度を変えて多数枚撮影された画像を対象とした符号化手法として、回転予測および展開画像を用いた可逆符号化法を開発し、本研究が目的としている超高品質画像情報アプリケーションシステムの基本となる部分を検討した。すなわち、立体物を回転台の上に載せ、微小角度ずつ回転させて高解像度で撮像し、各フレーム間の相関を利用した可逆符号化を行う。このとき、撮像対象画像中の回転対象物の端の領域では、着目画素に対して参照すべき領域が参照フレーム中に存在しない場合がある。そこで、本研究では、通常の順方向回転予測モードに加え、逆方向回転予測モードおよびフレーム内予測モードを用意しておき、この3種類の予測モードの中からもっとも効果的なモードをブロックごとに適応的に選択して用いる手法を提案している。さらに、これとは別に、回転撮像シーケンスから、1枚の展開図(展開画像)を作成し、これをもとに、透視投影と輝度補正により、符号化対象画像の近似画像を作成し、この近似画像と原画像との差分を符号化する手法を提案した。両方式について符号化シミュレーションを行い、提案方式の性能を評価した。
