研究概要

1.空間的アプローチ(回遊メカニズムの解明)
(1)スラウェシ島のポイガル川河口で採集したシラスウナギの耳石から日齢査定を行い、Anguilla celebesensis,A.marmorata,A.bicolor pacificaの接岸日齢はおよそ109日,155日,173日であることを明らかにした。一方,ニュージーランドのA.australisは226日で接岸していた。熱帯ウナギの仔魚期間は温帯ウナギのそれに比較して短いことがわかった。(2)2000年1月14日〜3月10日,南太平洋およびセレベス海でウナギの回遊生態を調査し,ウナギ属レプトケファルス計21個体を得た。セレベス海ではふ化後間もない体長7mmの前期仔魚と,最大伸長期に近い47.4mmの個体が同一地点で採集されたことから,セレベス海にはいずれの種かの産卵場があり,また,熱帯ウナギは局地的小規模回遊をしていることが示唆された。
2.時間的アプローチ(種分化過程・類縁系統関係の解明)
(1)インド・太平洋一帯から得たA.marmorata計240個体のmtDNAおよび核DNAを解析した結果,本種には遺伝的に明らかに異なる6つの集団の存在することがわかった。これらはレプトケファルスの輸送を支配する海洋の水塊構造とほぼ対応していた。(2)ウナギ属魚類全種の内部骨格を比較したところ,種間の形態的差異は極めて小さかった。今後,遺伝子データと合わせてウナギ属の類縁系統関係を解明する。(3)世界各地より得たウナギ属魚類計800個体から単生類Pseudodactylogyrusの7種を採集した。ウナギ寄生のPseudodactylogyrusの宿主特異性は低く,種間の遺伝的差異はごく小さいことがわかった。これより,Pseudodactylogyrusはウナギと共進化したというより、むしろ他の魚類から宿主転換してウナギで比較的最近に種分化したものと考えられた。
