ウナギ属魚類の起源と進化に関する研究

研究概要	本年度は以下の3項目について計3ヶ国で8回の海外調査を実施し,次の結果を得た。 1.熱帯ウナギの回遊生態:インドネシア・スラウェシ島一周航海を行い,計2,592尾のレプトケファルスを得た。この内,ウナギ属は53尾でAnguilla interioris, A. bornensis, A. celebesensis, A. marmorata, A. bicolor pacificaの計5種が採集された。仔魚の分布とサイズの解析からA. bornencess とA. celebecensisの産卵場がそれぞれ,セレベス海とトミニ湾にあることが明らかになった。2.大西洋ウナギの種分化:北アメリカに分布するA.rostrataとヨーロッパのA.anguillaが同所的に分布するアイスランドにおいてシラスウナギの採集調査を実施したところ,これら2種の接岸日齢はともに約1年と等しく,サルガッソー海で孵化した両種がほぼ同様の輸送過程を経てアイスランドに加入するものと考えられた。これら大西洋群2種が分化したのは両者の変態時期のズレが原因で,分子系統解析より,それは今から約100万年前と推定された。3.ウナギと寄生虫の共進化:リボゾームRNA遺伝子のITS2領域を用いて解析したところ,汽水域の天然ウナギ鰓弁に寄生する新種,Pseudodactylogyrus kamegaiiは淡水域のウナギに寄生するP.biniやP.anguillaeより早く分岐していたことから、Pseudodactylogyrusは本来海起源で,宿主の淡水への適応進化に伴って種分化したことが示唆された。この他,本研究最終年の今年度は,研究の総まとめとして2001年9月に国際シンポジウム「Advances in Eel Biology」を東京大学において開催し,計79件の研究発表を行った。また,計22編の原著論文,3編の総説なども出版した。
