研究概要	ヒトT細胞白血病ウイルス(HTLV)の流行分布から、中南米の先住民族は、日本人と同じHTLV-Iを保有する高地アンデス先住民族、およびHTLV-IIを保有する北部のカリブ海地域からオリノコ・アマゾン流域、南部パタゴニア地域に定着している低地先住民族に大別できた。両者は、リンパ球抗原(HLA)DR-DQ遺伝子の塩基配列によるハプロタイプの分布からも全く異なった遺伝的背景を呈していることが判明した。さらに、アンデス地域に数千年前から埋蔵されてきた自然ミイラのDNA解析により、チリ北部アタカマ高原のミイラ2体(約千五百年前のティワナク)からヒトβグロビン遺伝子を抽出し、そのうち1体からHTLV-Iのプロウイルス遺伝子(pX、LTR)の抽出にも成功した。HTLV-IのLTR遺伝子の塩基配列から、ミイラのそれは同地域の先住民族、および日本のアイヌ民族の型と類似していた。これらの知見は南米大陸に欧州人が侵入してくるよりはるか前にHTLV-Iが存在しており、その遺伝的解析から日本人とアンデス先住民族の類似性を科学的に証明した。これは医学的のみならず人類遺伝学的、考古学的にも極めて重要な発見といえる。次にわれわれはアジアの屋根といわれているチベット高原に居住するモンゴロイド集団、チベット族の人類遺伝学的情報がこれまで皆無であることに鑑み、チベット族の調査がアジア大陸におけるモンゴロイド集団の移動史に重要な情報を提供できるものと考えた。そこで今年度からチベット族の野外採血活動を新たに開始し、西域に居住するチベット族がHTLV-Iを保有しておらず、HLA型は日本人やアンデス先住民族と異なることを明らかにした。来年度から2年間、チベット東部や南部に居住するチベット族に焦点を当て、本格的な大規模野外調査を計画している。
