多成分モデル高分子綱目の合成と特性評価

研究概要

本研究で研究代表者らは、精密重合により得られた直鎖状高分子の末端反応性基として環状オニウム塩を導入し、低分子あるいは高分子化合物中のカルボン酸アニオンとの反応により、イオン結合性高分子集合体を合成前駆体とする逐次的反応プロセス(Electrostatic Self-Assembly and Covalent Fixation)の開発に成功した。このシステムにおいては、イオン結合性高分子前駆体中の反応点がクーロン相互作用することにより局所的な末端基濃度を増大させることができ、適度な加熱処理で対アニオンの求核攻撃による環状オニウム塩の定量的な開環反応が生じ、イオン対を共有結合に変換できることを見出してきた。また、ポリテトラヒドロフランやポリスチレン、ポリエチレングリコールなど種々の主鎖セグメントに対し有効であることも明らかにした。加えて、海外研究分担者の招聘および日本側の研究代表者・分担者の派遣により、新たな反応性高分子(多分岐テレケリクスおよび内部官能性テレケリクス)の合成プロセスの開発にも成功した。これらの成果により、従来の高分子反応システムでは困難な定量的連結(および架橋)を達成し、星型および櫛形高分子などの分岐高分子や網目モデル高分子、さらにグラフト共重合体やネットワーク共重合体などの多成分分岐、網目共重合体の高効率的合成に成功した。
さらにこの新規反応プロセスを発展させ、有機溶媒希釈下でのイオン結合性高分子前駆体の選択的自己組織化を利用して、多分岐状および網目状トポロジーとならび、次世代の材料開発における究極課題の一つである"分子デバイス"、"分子マシン"を実現するために必要不可欠であると考えられる、単環状および多環状構造を基礎とする種々の高分子トポロジーの一般的かつ高効率な構築法の開発にも成功した。
