研究概要	(1)計画研究の活動・連携:領域内の計画研究は、細胞内の主要な蛋白分解システムであるユビキチン・プロテアソームシステム研究(チーム:畠山鎮次、岩井一宏、横沢英良、千葉智樹)とオートファゴソーム・リソソームシステム研究(チーム:木南英紀、水島昇、山本健二)に分けることができる。両研究の共通の研究課題であり、本特定領域研究の副題となっている基質蛋白質の選別機構を規定する種々のモディファイアー蛋白質、関連酵素群の同定、それらの機能解析について各計画研究とも活発に研究が展開されている。上記の各チーム内およびチーム間における情報交換や材料提供はメール網を介して非常に密であり、共同研究も盛んである。その成果として共著の論文も多数作成された。 (2)総括班の活動:蛋白分解のバイオロジー研究およびその関連領域を含め広くこの領域全体の活性化をはかるため、本特定領域研究の第4回公開シンポジウムを「蛋白質分解のメカニズムとバイオロジー」というタイトルで、平成15年12月19日(金)、20日(土)の2日間、岡崎コンフェレンスセンターで主催した。講演者は本特定領域研究の計画研究代表者7名を含む20人で、非常に濃密な討論が行われ、この領域の研究が加速度的に進んでいることを確認し盛会に終わった。平成15年11月名古屋で行われた第3回IPS (International Proteolysis Society,国際蛋白質分解学会)の総会において、2つのシンポジウム「ユビキチン・プロテアソーム系」と「エンドソーム・オートファゴソーム・リソソーム系」で、計画研究代表者の多くが招待講演した。また、オートファジーをテーマとしたGordon Research Conferenceが6月に行われ、日本発信の研究として、計画研究代表者の多くが招待講演者として参加した。
