研究概要	それぞれの分野で着実な進歩があったといえる。A01(脳の発生)の分野では、神経発生における遺伝子群の同定と役割の解析が進みつつある。なかでも岡野栄之によるin vitroにおける神経幹細胞からの運動ニューロンへの分化誘導の成功は特筆に値するだろう。A02(脳の発達)では、いくつかの代表的な部位に於けるシナプス形成機序の解析がすすめられた。とくに視覚領に見られる神経活動依存的な神経結合の形成においてBDNFが大きな役割を果たしているという証拠があがりつつある。このためにGFP-BDNF融合タンパクを用いてのBDNFの可視化が試みられ、BDNFの挙動が明らかになりつつある。B01(記憶の分子生物学)では、抑制性介在ニューリン・プルキンエ細胞間のシナプスでみられるGABA性シナプス伝達の脱分極による増強現象に関する報告が際立った。平野丈夫は、プルキンエ細胞脱分極時に、シナプス前ニューロンを刺激するかGABAを投与すると、シナプス伝達およびGABA応答の増強が抑えられることを見い出した。このシナプス前ニューロンの活動がシナプス可塑性を抑えるという知見は、これまで全く報告されていない新たなシナプス伝達制御機構の発見である。A03(脳の老化)では、アミロイドの蓄積にラフトが関与する可能性が指摘された。またFTDP-17のtransgenic miceの作製が報告された。このマウスラインを用いての研究の進展が期待される。A04(脳の変性)においては、とくにpolyglutamine diseaseの発症機序の研究に焦点が当てられた。なかでも辻省次は、核内凝集の前段階に核内に瀰漫性にpolyglutamine productが集積することを発見した。Polyglutamine diseaseにおける神経細胞死はアポトーシスではなく、核内のpolyglutamine productが集積による転写障害によるものだとする辻らの仮説は、非常に興味深いものであり、今後の研究の進展が期待される。B02(システム回路),B03(モデル脳)においても、神経回路網のシステムとしての理解が着実にすすみつつある。
