意識とワーキングメモリの脳内メカニズムの研究

研究概要

今年度は本課題の最終年度であり、意識を形成するワーキングメモリのアクティブな働きを前部帯状回(ACC: Anterior Cingulate Cortex)と前頭前野(PFC: Prefrontal Cortex)の神経ネットワークの動態比較を中心に検討した。RST(Reading Span Test)とOST(Operation Span Task)課題によりワーキングメモリ容量のハイ群とロー群を設定した上で、行動データとfMRIデータをワーキングメモ課題下で高齢者と健常青年で比較し、数理モデル(構造化方程式モデリング:SEM)や通常のSPM解析処理を適用し次の結論を得た。(1)ハイ群ではACC-PFCの結合の重みが高いがロー群では低い(2)ACCからPFCへのアテンションのトップダウン処理がある(3)高齢者では注意の切り替えとかかわるACCの働きが弱くなっているが、PFCの働きそのものは変らない(4)RSTを用いた自己意識課題(心の理論課題)を行わせるとACC-PFCの中間領域にハイ群で活性化が認められ(自己)意識の座ともいうべき脳内領域が見つかった。これらの事実は意識の働きが空間性ワーキングメモリ、言語性ワーキングメモリの働きと深くかかわっており、360年前にデカルトが提案した意識の劇場モデルがACC-PFC(特に左半球)の分散協調型脳内ネットワークで形成維持されていることを明らかにしたといえる。今年の研究成果についてはNeuroImage誌(オランダ)に3件、Behavioral Brain Research誌(同)、Neuroscience Letters誌(同)などに各1件、合計5編を出版した。さらに5件の英語論文を投稿準備中である。
